MS-1 vs. El Faraón
CMLL
HAIR VS. HAIR
07/03/1992
Year: 1992
Type: Hair vs. Hair
Other: Bloody
Synopsis:
The main event of the same show as the classic El Dandy & Negro Casas title match was this forgettable veteran vs. veteran hair match. El Faraón was at the end of his career and MS-1 was past his prime. They worked at a methodical pace. More importantly, they do not make the most of that pace and the result is a middling match where the stakes feel far lower than they should. They both bleed (MS-1 bleeds heavily) which provides a little spark to the third fall. However, MS-1 also seems to run out of steam around the same time. As a result, the match crawls to the finish. The finish itself is blown with the losing wrestler’s shoulders clearly being off the mat, but that doesn’t stop CMLL from showing a slow motion replay of it anyway.

The main event saw El Faraon (Jose Luis Barajas Fernandez) upsetting M. S. 1 (Pablo Fuentes Reyna) in a caballera contra caballera match two falls to one. The finish of the third fall and the match looked goofy as M. S. 1, who was bleeding as much as any luchador Dave Scherer could ever remember, had El Faraon rolled up In a cradle, but let the hold go and let himself be pinned for the fall. This one was rated at ** 1/2. When was the last time the EMLL had two babyfaces/tecnicos win two stipulation matches cleanly over two heels/rudos? I can’t even remember. The first fall saw M. S. 1 pin El Faraon cleanly with a diving body press (like a super fly splash from off of the top rope). The second fall saw a now-bloody El Faraon lifted up for a power bomb, but then turn the move into a hurricanrana. The third fall ended with the funky finish described above. Dave Scherer gave it *** until the finish, then lowered the rating to ** 1/2. By the end, M. S. 1 was laid out cold as barber Pancho Penzaloa went to work.
