(12/13/1991) Mascara Año 2000 vs. Anibal (CMLL)

Mascara Año 2000 vs. Anibal
MASK VS. MASK
CMLL
12/13/1991

Year: 1991
Type: Mask vs. Mask
Other: n/a

Synopsis:

Fifty year old Anibal – a star with the UWA from the promotion’s founding in 1975 through the mid-1980’s – drops his mask to Mascara Año 2000 in an entertaining match that used a few key moments to make cover for both wrestler’s in-ring shortcomings (Anibal’s being age related). This match was apparently supposed to involve another Dinamita as Universo 2000 was penciled in to get the big mask win. When word of that leaked, CMLL changed direction and gave the win to Dos Mil. The finish is interesting and at least indirectly plays into the finish of the apuesta match Perro Aguayo and Mascara Año 2000 wrestled in AAA almost 18 months after this one.

(09/23/1998) Mascara Año 2000 vs. Mogur (CMLL)

Mascara Año 2000 vs. Mogur
MASK VS. MASK
CMLL
09/23/1988

Year: 1988
Type: Mask vs. Mask
Other: n/a

Synopsis:

The second of two consecutive Mogur mask matches on an EMLL Anniversary show. The consensus on this one relative to Mogur’s match with As Charro from 1987 is that the As Charro match was the better of the two. This is a straight forward, no-blood apuesta match with a creative last minute that might not resonate with everyone. The finishing move, however, is must-see for fans of high impact, potentially dangerous  suplexes. It is a watchable match, just don’t go in expecting a major spectacle or top-end Anniversary show apuesta match.

MASK VS. HAIR
AAA

Year: 1993
Type: Mask vs. Hair
Other: Historical; Bloody

Synopsis:

A monster of a match in terms of heat, drama, and overall presentation. Perro is old and it shows. Mascara Año 2000 is a mediocre at best wrestler and that shows, too. None of that really matters, however, as all of the necessary items for a big time memorable match are there: heat, drama, violence (blood), and major near falls. Far less smoke and mirrors were needed here relative a typical Undertaker WrestleMania match, but the overall concept of this same. The booking presses all of the right buttons and you won’t find many matches that are as memorable and gigantic as this match was.
