(04/01/1994) La Fiera vs. Emilio Charles Jr. (CMLL)

La Fiera vs. Emilio Charles Jr.
CMLL
04/01/1994

Year: 1994
Type: n/a
Other: Bloody

Synopsis:

Former rudo partners Emilio Charles Jr. and La Fiera wrestle a non-stipulation singles match en route to their eventual hair bout. With nothing of real significance on the line, this match suffers from the usual straight lucha singles match problem in that it has neither the great technical work of a great title match or the drama of a great apuesta match. Both wrestlers bleed and do an effective job of moving their feud one (big) step closer to the blow off (which unfortunately is not in circulation). La Fiera, although better known as a rudo, gives another strong tecnico performance in this one.

(02/08/2015) El Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs. Myzteziz (AAA)

El Hijo del Perro Aguayo vs. Myzteziz
AAA
02/08/2015

Year: 2015
Type: n/a
Other: Bloody

Synopsis:

Television matches designed to build up an apuesta match do not get much effective than this. Perro Jr. and Myzteziz were heading for a hair vs. mask match (likely at that year’s TripleMania) and this was the first major match on the road there. It is a bloody and violent match where even the tired AAA tropes (like a wrestler going through one of those flimsy boards) had more impact than usual. Unfortunately and tragically, the blow off was never to come but judging on the quality of both this set up match and the Rey de Reyes tag match, it had the chance to be something special. Even though this match was a feud builder, it more than stands on its own.

Year: 2015
Type: n/a
Other: Bloody

Synopsis:

This match between Villano IV and Blue Demon Jr. from AAA’s cursed 2015 Rey de Reyes show was a late replacement for the originally scheduled Alberto El Patron vs. Brian Cage match. It is a polarizing match. Dave Meltzer panned it  – particularly Villano IV’s performance – for being slow and boring. Others (including this site) saw a methodical but violent and entertaining lucha brawl. If you value athleticism and speed in your wrestling, then you might want to stay away. If that is less of a concern, this match is worth a watch.

HAIR VS. HAIR

Year: 1986
Type:  Hair vs. Hair
Other: Bloody

Synopsis:

The 5th place finisher on the DVDR 80’s Lucha set poll. La Fiera wrestled this match as if he had a death wish, taking some crazy bumps off the ring apron to the wood floors.  All of the hair match staples are found in this match from brawling and blood to biting and bumps. They are complemented by Fiera’s always unique and entertaining kick-based offense. At the very least, this is a strong hair match that checks all of the boxes and at best – as evidenced by the DVDVR poll – it is one of the best available matches from Mexico in the 1980’s.

Super Libre

Year: 2000
Type:  n/a
Other: Bloody

Synopsis:

Mother nature added another level of intrigue to this Super Libre by pounding the ring and wrestlers with rain before and during the match. Without an overhang to protect them from the rain, Apache and Sevilla still manage to wrestle a spirited and bloody match. Even without the rain, this is an effective setup match for the upcoming apuesta bout but the rain – and the visuals it creates – make for a very memorable match.
