02/24/1994
CMLL World Middleweight

Year: 1994
Type: Title Match Style
Other: Recommended

Synopsis:

This match is as tough, gritty, and realistic of a mat based match you will see outside of the high end Japanese shoot style matches. For anyone that mistakenly thinks lucha mat work (and lucha in general) is loose and unrealistic, this is the match to watch. The match is very dense with the appeal resting in the details – the up-close selling, the struggle for holds, and the struggle for escapes – which doesn’t necessarily make it an easy watch. If you are in the mood for a match steeped in struggle and realistic offense/selling, this is a great one to watch.

Year: 1994
Type: n/a
Other: Bloody

Synopsis:

Former rudo partners Emilio Charles Jr. and La Fiera wrestle a non-stipulation singles match en route to their eventual hair bout. With nothing of real significance on the line, this match suffers from the usual straight lucha singles match problem in that it has neither the great technical work of a great title match or the drama of a great apuesta match. Both wrestlers bleed and do an effective job of moving their feud one (big) step closer to the blow off (which unfortunately is not in circulation). La Fiera, although better known as a rudo, gives another strong tecnico performance in this one.

HAIR VS. HAIR
06/10/1994

Year: 1994
Type:  Hair vs. Hair
Other RecommendedBloody; High Flying

Synopsis:

This match between very good (if not unheralded) luchadores Ciclon Ramirez and Javier Cruz is a quintessential “hair vs. hair” bout. It also features a must-see tope suicida from Ramirez, who made a career out of landing ridiculous physics-defying topes. All of the essential hair match elements are there from blood and brawling to insane dives and a big finish. The match has long had a strong reputation and finished 14th in the DVDVR 90’s lucha poll. It also holds up remarkably well. There are better available hair matches than this one (after all, it was not a heavily promoted match), but not many capture the spirit of a great hair match so thoroughly and effortlessly as this one did.
