(10/29/1993) Pirata Morgan vs. Jerry Estrada (AAA)

Pirata Morgan vs. Jerry Estrada
10/29/1993
AAA

Year: 1993
Type: n/a
Other: Angle

Synopsis:

A throw away, non-stipulation singles match in the middle of the Jerry Estrada/Pirata Morgan/El Satanico 3-way feud. The wrestling in this one is forgettable and worse yet the match does nothing to further the burgeoning feud. The match includes a lengthy post-match beating of Jerrito Estrada leading to hair match challenges between Jerrito and Piratita but does nothing to continue the issue between the participants except leaving it unresolved.

(10/01/1993) Atlantis vs. Mano Negra (CMLL)

Mask vs. mask
CMLL
10/01/1993

Year: 1993
Type: Mask vs. Mask
Other: n/a

Synopsis:

CMLL seemed to be heading towards an Oro versus Mano Negra mask match in early 1993, but as the story goes Oro made it known that he wished to spend more time at home and planned on cutting back on his career as a luchador. Atlantis was given Mano Negra’s mask instead to ensure it would go to a wrestler who would be around long-term. This is the least of the major Atlantis’ mask matches and by a healthy margin. Mano Negra never appears to pose much of a threat and his offense during the first two falls is uninspired. Not a bad match, but certainly not a memorable one besides for the stipulation and the fact that it is Atlantis in a mask match.

(08/13/1993) El Hijo del Santo vs. Heavy Metal (AAA)

EL HIJO DEL SANTO VS. HEAVY METAL
AAA
WWA Welterweight championship
08/13/1993

Year: 1993
Type:
Title Match Style
Other: High Flying

Synopsis:

The second of four televised title matches that Hijo del Santo and Heavy Metal wrestled in 1993. This one is spends less time on the mat than the first or third, which is not necessarily a negative. The extra mat wrestling of the first bout is replaced with additional flying, including several dives from Santo and a pair from Heavy Metal. Falls two and three are joined in progress, which makes it all the more confounding when an extraneous segment occurring outside of the match airs unedited. The match also features a wonky AAA-twist on a not uncommon lucha finish. The finish and the entire match have good heat. A good match overall, which features a pleasant mix of mat wrestling and high flying.

(11/26/1993) El Satanico vs. Pirata Morgan (AAA)

El Satanico vs. Pirata Morgan
Hair vs. Hair
AAA
11/26/1993

Year: 1993
Type: Hair vs. Hair
Features: BloodyRecommended

Synopsis:

A model of a match if you are looking for no nonsense, cut-the-fat lucha style brawls. Morgan and Satanico were on the downsides of their careers at the time this match took place (which is a funny thing to write when both are still wrestling in 2016) but had more than enough left in the tank. Morgan and Satanico being hair match veterans also shined through in this match as it was classically styled and worked hair bout. This is a basic match – a lot of punching, relatively uncomplicated submissions, attacks of the knee, blood, and bumping – but it is all executed really well and with a high level of intensity. This feels more like a CMLL match than something from AAA for multiple reasons, almost all of which are positive. Fans of traditional hair matches, bloody lucha libre, and basic Memphis-like fights should seek this match out.

LIZMARK VS. El satanico

MEXICAN NATIONAL LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT
AAA

Year: 1993
Type: Title Match Style
Other: n/a

Synopsis:

Another early AAA singles match is that is (a) wrestled in a rather traditional lucha style and (b) is very good. Satanico and Lizmark work a straight up title match in a style that would have looked very much at home in 1993 CMLL. The first fall is wrestled almost entirely on the mat. The mat wrestling is not world class and somewhat sedentary compared to high quality lucha mat work but it is never boring. Lizmark does show some of the quickness from his younger days a couple of times and there are enough interesting holds to keep your attention. The finish to the first fall is well executed and was a nice play off of the Lizmark/Parka title match from five months earlier. They pick up the pace for the second fall, which also has sort of a wonky ending although this one probably was not intentional. Even in the third fall, Satanico and Lizmark never stray too far from the mat. On their feet, they do a fine job as well job even though both guys are obviously far slower than they were in their primes. The build to and payoff of Lizmark’s top rope plancha was well done. This is not a classic title match by any means but it is another quality title match for Lizmark and possibly the last great singles match of his career. It is also Satanico working a straight up, technical title match which is always a fun look for him.
