CMLL
Arena Coliseo (Mexico City, Mexico)
A match with a lot of great flying, as you would expect.
Valiente’s springboard moonsault where he jumps off the canvas twists his body around mid-air, lands on the ropes, and springs off into a moonsault might be my favorite flying move right now that is used on any sort of regular basis. There was a great replay of it in this match where you can see how effortlessly he is able to pull off such a ridiculously agile move. It is made all the more impressive by the fact that he doesn’t look all that agile. He has that Silver King “don’t be fooled by his stocky physique” thing going on.
Other highlights include Mistico’s dive into a hurricanrana which I never get tired of seeing and a triple team dive from the tecnicos. The rudos took falls one and three to win the match and laid out a challenge for the CMLL Trios titles in the aftermath. The logic – that they beat 2/3’s of the champs in Mistico and Valiente – is hard to argue with, although they did recently lose to the champs in a non-title match. Mistico accepted – or so it seemed – but no title match has been announced as of now. Instead, these six re-match next Sunday in the semi.
