Dr. Cerebro vs. El Hijo del Diablo
IWRG
01/31/2010
IWRG Intercontinental Lightweight

Year: 2010
Type: Title Match Style
Othern/a

Synopsis:

As good as the wrestling has been at times in IWRG during their history, the atmosphere and presentation often do not compare to CMLL and AAA. Not so the case here, where Dr. Cerebro and Hijo del Diablo wrestle a “big” match with the heat to match. The match is well-rounded and well-structured and includes periods of quality mat work, brawling, some blood, dives, and effective near falls.

(06/18/2009) Trauma II vs. Zatura (IWRG)

Trauma II vs. Zatura
IWRG
06/18/2009
Intercontinental Lightweight

Year: 2009
Type:  Title Match Style
Other: Recommended

Synopsis:

Great matches can can come from unusual places. Given some of the wrestlers IWRG booked in 2009, you would not exactly expect a young Trauma II and Zatura to produce the best IWRG title match of the year, but that’s almost certainly what this match is. The match has the feel – structure, pacing – of a quality lucha title match but pairs it with truly innovative and effective offense and sequences. The creative offense is executed very well and Zatura’s flying spots serve as a perfect complement to the hold-intensive portions of the match. This holds up as one of the more enjoyable and interesting matches of 2009 anywhere in the world.

Mask vs. Mask
03/01/2001

Year: 2001
Type: Mask vs. Mask
Other: n/a

Synopsis:

The Santo & Dr. Cerebro feud wraps up with a mask match that falls short of the high standard set by the first two bouts. Santo is off here. For whatever the reasons might be and whether or not they it was intentional, it is clear that Santo does not bring the same high level performance he brought to the first two matches in the series. After a great technical title match and a great bloody brawl, this match has neither of those defining contexts and suffers as a result. It is still a good match but not at the same level as the matches that proceeded it.

Super Libre
02/22/2001

Year: 2001
Type: n/a
Other: Bloody; Recommended

Synopsis:

The second Santo & Cerebro feud continues with a bloody, hate-filled super libre match that does an excellent job setting up their mask match the following week. The wrestling is far more personal and intense than the title match but just about as strong. The ending provides a satisfying reason for the apuesta match to happen.

EL HIJO DEL SANTO VS. Dr. Cerebro
IWRG
IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight
12/21/2000

Year: 2000
Type: Title Match Style
Other: Recommended

Synopsis:

This is the first match in a singles match trilogy involving El Hijo del Santo and Dr. Cerebro. As a title match it is superb. As the first step in what would become a heated feud, it was nearly as excellent. The match and series could not have been better timed as Cerebro clearly had come into his own (as this match attests) by the end of 2000 and Santo still had plenty in the tank before his mid-2000’s swoon. The first two falls are very heavy on (high quality) mat wrestling and the final fall has everything you want from a third fall including excellent dives from both men. This is from the ESPN2 era of IWRG which means that the production is also superb. A great match and a great way to begin a feud.
