VILLANO IV VS. BLUE DEMON JR.
AAA
03/18/2015
Year: 2015
Type: n/a
Other: Bloody
Synopsis:
This match between Villano IV and Blue Demon Jr. from AAA’s cursed 2015 Rey de Reyes show was a late replacement for the originally scheduled Alberto El Patron vs. Brian Cage match. It is a polarizing match. Dave Meltzer panned it – particularly Villano IV’s performance – for being slow and boring. Others (including this site) saw a methodical but violent and entertaining lucha brawl. If you value athleticism and speed in your wrestling, then you might want to stay away. If that is less of a concern, this match is worth a watch.

With Alberto gone, his match with Brian Cage, done to set up a feud for the AAA mega heavyweight title, was off and replaced by Blue Demon Jr. vs. a terribly out of shape Villano IV. The match had good psychology and technical wrestling, but the crowd was dead until the finish and the movement was so slow it was like they were doing a match under water. Villano IV nearly killed himself on a tope where he flew short and landed on the ground. Usually when the old-timers do this kind of a match they encourage fans to throw money in, there was one coin in the ring which almost made it sadder than if nobody threw anything.

Blue Demon Jr. beat Villano IV in 18:25. Match was done in slow motion with little heat early. Villano ran Demon into the post and hit him in the head with a chair. Demon bladed under his mask without ripping the mask to show the blood. Villano bit the cut. They were doing this 80s style grudge match, but in slow motion and to little reaction. Demon came back and posted Villano, hit him in the head with a chair (these guys don’t kill each other with the chairs to the head, but the way they throw chairs relatively safely would never work in the U.S., and in fact, on a U.S. show, this match with Villano so out of shape would have been brutalized). Villano juiced and took another chair to the head. They traded punches. Villano went for a tope, but didn’t get far enough and hit his head on the floor rather than nailing Demon. But Villano threw him into the post. Demon came back with a tope. Demon slammed him off the top like Flair, used a Frankensteiner off the top and won via submission. *3/4
