With approximately ten CMLL regulars already on the way to Japan for the FantasticaMania shows and the weekly Guadalajara show running at the same time, we get La Peste Negra (“The Black Death”) taking on a mix-and-match veteran technico team in the Sunday Arena Mexico show main event.
The focus of the bout is on Mr. Niebla who judging by recent booking, is heading for a feud and possible mask vs. mask match with Atlantis. CMLL’s booking has a tendency to be start-and-stop so the feud could be over before it really begins. However, rumors that Ultimo Guerrero will not agree to a mask match makes it is possible that the promotion is compensating by moving Atlantis into a feud with Niebla that could culminate with both masks at stake. That is all speculation on my part, of course, and like everyone else I am hoping that we eventually get the long-anticipated Atlantis/Ultimo Guerrero mask match sometime early this year.
The bout ends in a disqualification when Mr. Niebla refuses to stop beating on Atlantis and ripping his mask. This gives us a great post-match visual that only Lucha can provide, as La Mascara stands over a fallen and nearly mask-less Atlantis who is shielding his face from being seen where Niebla continues to hurl insults (both verbal and physical). It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what Niebla is saying on the mic – the picture speaks for itself.
