AAA Cruiserweight Championship #1 Contender’s Match
Although this eight-man match is loaded with talented high flyers, it comes up short in execution and pales in comparison to the show opening trios match on the same card.
As a fast paced, high flying spectacle, this match fell well short of several of the year’s better CMLL cibernetico matches. The match never quite settled into a comfortable flow and while there were some big time moves, it never quite made it over the line from “match with good moves” to “must-see collection of breathtaking moves”. There was a disjointed feeling from the start which carried over to the elimination section. This one never truly made it out of the starting blocks.
Bengala – Ricky Marvin under his new masked Bengal gimmick – was the ultimate survivor, making him the #1 contender to Daga’s cruiserweight title. Well, maybe. Aerostar won a similar match a week before this that supposedly made him the top contender for that championship. AAA has yet to explain exactly what all of this means. Daga is still the champion by all indications so either we are heading towards a 3-way match or Aerostar is going to wrestle Bengala at some point in time with the winner receiving the title shot.
