(04/08) Super Halcon Jr. vs. Guerrero Negro Jr.

CMLL
Arena Mexico (Mexico City, Mexico)
Judges:  Mr. Niebla, Shocker, Tirantes & Euforia

There is some decent match work to start this one out with some rolling on the mat and riding from Guerrero Negro.  Halcon Jr. manages a nice lucha arm drag that sends Negro Jr. to the outside where he follows up a sort of awkward tope con hilo.  Halcon takes a big bump off the apron shortly thereafter which is probably where this match peaks.  From that point on, it feels disjointed and rushed with Halcon winning after a top rope moonsault.

The judges do not care for either luchador’s performance.  Tirantes good mood after the Hechicero/Cavernario match quickly evaporates.  Tirantes advises Halcon Jr. that he might want to find a new career.  Ouch.

This is the first match where the loser gains more points than the winner.  Dave Meltzer has mentioned that is an issue because even if everyone knows it is a work, how can the loser be more impressive than the winner?  That actually happens a lot in sports.  I have watched plenty baseball games where the losing team looked like the better team the entire game, but they just didn’t end up with the win.  It seems perfectly reasonable to me that some wrestlers could watch these two wrestle and see that Guerrero Negro was the better wrestler in the match and in general, but the match just didn’t go his way.  I don’t buy that as a suspension of disbelief deal breaker that Meltzer makes it out to be.  It is actually just honest and realistic.

Judges’ Scores:  Super Halcon Jr. – 20: Guerrero Negro Jr. – 23
